Support for Education, Contribution to Future Generations

Accomplishing Asım Kocabıyık's vision of support for education, the Borusan Kocabıyık Foundation which was founded through donations from the Kocabıyık family and Borusan Group Companies has been adding value to the society in terms of education since 1992. The schools that are built and handed over by the Foundation to the national education system are the most important elements among the services which it has provided up to today:

• Borusan Otomotiv Zehra Nurhan Kocabıyık Primary School (Avcılar, Istanbul)
• Asım and Nurhan Kocabıyık Teachers' House (Avcılar, Istanbul)
• Asım Kocabıyık Technical Vocational College (Kocaeli University)
• Asım Kocabıyık Technical Vocational College (Uludağ University)
• Two student dormitories (Kocaeli University)
• Graduate School of Faculty of Law and Dean’s Office (Uludağ University)
• Faculty of Law (Afyon Kocatepe University)
• Student Center (Uludağ University Gemlik Sunğipek Asım Kocabıyık Campus)

In addition, the Borusan Kocabıyık Foundation supported kindergarten teachers so that they are able to inspire primary ethical values in children at the age of preschool education. Accordingly, the Foundation assumed the sponsorship of the book titled "Preschool Values Education" authored by Prof. Dr. Gülçin Alpöge, a pre-school education specialist, with a view to guide parents and teachers. The book was delivered to more than 5 thousand kindergarten teachers in Istanbul in cooperation with Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education.

Distinguished with its investments contributing to the community of Gemlik, Borusan built a library at Umurbey Anatolian Vocational High School of Health, which was put into service with the start of the 2012-2013 school year. Built by Borusan Group Companies as a gift on his 88th birthday of Asım Kocabıyık, the Founder and Honorary Chairman of Borusan Holding, who was known for his emphasis on and actual services in education, the library features a capacity of 3 thousand 500 books and sources. At the library, students are able to have access to any information on their studies with the help of laptops and desktops and to closely follow recent developments in medical world.

The workshops on National Quality Movement performed by KalDer (Turkish Quality Association) are ongoing at 6 educational units, being Avcılar District Directorate of National Education, Borusan Otomotiv Zehra Nurhan Kocabıyık Primary School, Borusan Asım Kocabıyık Anatolian Vocational High School, Asım Kocabıyık Technical Vocational College of Kocaeli University, Asım Kocabıyık Technical Vocational College of Uludağ University and Borusan Primary School of Gemlik.

Avcılar Pilot ProjectThe Borusan Kocabıyık Foundation initiated a project in tandem with Avcılar District Directorate of National Education in 2007 with intent to enhance the quality of education by raising the awareness of parents. The Foundation provided for the publication of 30 thousand books titled "EDUCATION INTENDED FOR PARENTS in Terms of Feelings of Violence, Aggresiveness and Guilty in Children and Teenagers" in relation to the project designed for parents. For the purposes of the project, seminars are provided for 18 thousand parents under the coordination of Avcılar District Directorate of National Education up to the present.

Under "In-Service Study Field Improvement Activities" intended for teachers as executed in parallel to this project, a total of 144-hour training is provided with the participation of 9 faculty members from 7 individual universities up to the present. The vast majority of teachers located in Avcılar region participated in these training sessions performed on a voluntary participation basis.
