Opening Party at Perili Köşk (the Haunted Mansion) by Borusan for the 50th Istanbul Music Festival

Having ceaselessly maintained its support to art for 50 years, the Borusan Holding is sponsoring the 50th Istanbul Music Festival organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture & Arts (İKSV). For the Festival which draws global attention, Borusan held an opening party at Perili Köşk on June 2nd and hosted major figures from the business and art world.

Leaving its mark not only in its area of operation but also in significant efforts intended to benefit the society, Borusan maintains its continuous support to İKSV Istanbul Music Festival.

Asım Kocabıyık, deceased Founder and Honorary President of Borusan, was one of the founders of İKSV while Ahmet Kocabıyık, Chairperson of the Borusan Holding keeps supporting the foundation as its Vice Chairperson. With the vision to extend art, the Borusan Holding has become the Festival Sponsor for the 50th Istanbul Music Festival to maintain this friendship of nearly half a century.

Borusan organized an opening party on June 2nd for the Istanbul Music Festival which has hosted hundreds of valuable artists in 50 years, entertaining many significant figures at Perili Köşk owned by the Holding and Borusan Contemporary.

In her speech at the opening party, Borusan Holding Vice Chairperson and Borusan Kocabıyık Foundation President Zeynep Hamedi remarked: “As Borusan, we are happy that we have stayed side by side and provided support since the foundation of the Istanbul Foundation of Culture & Arts and from the first note played in the Istanbul Music Festival to the present day. Now the Istanbul Music Festival is 50 years old… It is exciting to share the same objective with such a Festival that embraces not only a single city but Turkey in its entirety. We pay tribute and respect to Mr. Asım Kocabıyık and Mr. Nejat Eczacıbaşı for having envisaged and realized the Istanbul Festival 50 years ago.”

İKSV Chairperson Bülent Eczacıbaşı in his speech said: “This is the fiftieth year of a quest that started with the idea of organizing an international festival in a city which did not have a spacious concert hall or even a concert piano. When Nejat Eczacıbaşı started preparations for the Istanbul Festival, he set off hand in hand with important business people including Asım Kocabıyık, founder of the Borusan Holding, as well as other major figures from the art world. Looking at the beginning of this miraculous event, we can clearly see this was made possible as the result of a powerful collaboration, a mobilization as it were. This year, in a sense we are also celebrating the 50th year of our inter-institutional fellowship. We are deeply happy that the Borusan Holding has reassumed the festival sponsorship on this notable anniversary too. I wish you all a joyful, satisfying, merry music Festival.”

Determined to stay on the side of İKSV and the Istanbul Music Festival which they have been supporting since the first note played, Borusan also shot a video ad focused on their ongoing fellowship for nearly half a century. The opening party witnessed the preview of that ad followed by a music recital and then guests continued enjoying the night with the performance of Mercan Dede.

Under the İKSV 50th Istanbul Music Festival to take place on June 6th-24th art lovers will also have the chance to listen to the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra (BIPO) and Borusan Quartet.

The Borusan Quartet and Xavier de Maistre, one of the prominent harpists in the world are coming together at the Süreyya Opera House on Wednesday, June 8th at 20:00. Pieces of Alvars who devoted his life to harp playing, Debussy who reflects all depths of the 19th century poetry, and Tchaikovsky, the passionate composer of the romantic era will be played.

On Wednesday, June 22nd at 20:00, Tan Dun & the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra will come together at the Atatürk Cultural Center Türk Telekom Opera Hall

Tan Dun, one of the prominent figures of the contemporary classical music scene who holds many prestigious awards including a Grammy and an Oscar (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) with his creative repertoire going over the limits of the Eastern and Western traditions will also appear in the festival with a Turkey premiere. His Double Concerto which was world-premiered in May 2021 by violinist Daniel Hope, pianist Alexey Botvinov and the New Century Chamber Orchestrate, with the Istanbul Music Festival and Borusan Art being among its co-orderers, will be performed in Turkey for the first time.
