Istanbul: A Source of Inspiration for Children

The urban laboratory Studio-X Istanbul, which started its activities last November, is realizing a joint, creative project with Informel Eğitim – çocukistanbul that is aimed at children. Four different workshops will be held on each Saturday, between February 8 – May 31, during which children will have the chance to express their inspiration for the city they live in. This free of charge project will be followed by an exhibition of the workshop output.

The urban laboratory Studio-X Istanbul, which was founded on November 2013 by the University of Columbia with support from its primary sponsor Borusan Holding, will be conducting a series of free events titled "Children's Istanbul." Co-organized with Informel Eğitim – çocukistanbul, the project is aimed to allow children to express their inspirational relation to the city they live in.

Throughout the "Children's Istanbul" event, four different workshops and seminars will be held between February 8 – May 31, during which Studio-X Istanbul will be transformed into a laboratory where children will be able to express their thoughts, dreams, and desires regarding the city through various media.

"The Children's Istanbul" event will see workshops and seminars for different age groups be held on each Saturday between 10:30 – 12:30.

Two different workshops will be held for the 6-10 aged groups. The "I'm Drawing Istanbul" titled first workshop will see the children listen to Istanbul's story that includes its authentic spots, seagulls, cats, and streets and then draw, cut, and paint their very own map of Istanbul.

The "Istanbul's Savory Map" titled second workshop will see the children become acquainted with delicacies specific to Istanbul. They will use such various ingredients as Yedikule lettuce, Çengelköy cucumber, and Kanlıca yoghurt to make their own dishes.

The first workshop for 9-12 aged groups will be the "Children's Istanbul Guide." This workshop will see them create an alternative "touristic guide" for tourist children that visit Istanbul.

The "Istanbul and Me" titled second workshop will see the children discover and share their neighborhoods, schools, and preferred locations on a large-scale satellite map of Istanbul. This will allow each children to create their very own map of Istanbul.

Prepared and conducted by Informel Eğitim – çocukistanbul , all workshops will be held at Studio-X Istanbul (Meclis-i Mebusan Cad. 35A Salıpazarı).
