Borusan Ventures Invests in Archimetis, Which Develops an AI-Powered Decision-Making System for Production Facilities

Borusan Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of Borusan Group, has participated in the $11.5 million funding round of San Francisco, US-based Archimetis, a company developing an advanced AI platform that brings together data, engineering analytics, and institutional knowledge.

Borusan Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of Borusan Group, continues to invest in innovative startups that strengthen efficiency and safety in manufacturing. As part of this commitment, Archimetis — which develops an AI-powered reasoning and decision-making system for production in industrial facilities, particularly in the energy and chemical sectors — raised $11.5 million in a funding round that included participation from Borusan Ventures. The round was led by Inspired Capital, with additional participation from Homebrew, MCJ, and Incite Capital.

Defne Kocabıyık Narter: “We believe Archimetis will stand apart from other AI solutions”

Defne Kocabıyık Narter, Founder and President of Borusan Ventures, commented on the investment: “One of Archimetis’ co-founders, Paul Manwell, spent many years in senior leadership roles at Google, working on major projects alongside CEO Sundar Pichai. Given this experience, we firmly believe Archimetis will stand apart from other AI solutions and deliver a more advanced product. While there is a misconception that artificial intelligence offers limited value in manufacturing, our tests at Borusan Boru’s Houston facility proved exactly the opposite. As a pioneering player in the steel industry, we are proud to be part of this journey and to support Archimetis’ progress in the sector by opening up our production facilities. We also aim to extend this solution to our production facilities in other countries, making artificial intelligence a key part of our operations.”

Billions of data points in a single structure: putting an end to analyses that once took days

Founded in 2023, Archimetis addresses a longstanding and critical problem in refineries and heavy industrial facilities: teams operating under intense operational pressure often cannot access the decision-making and analytical support they need in time. When production lines stop unexpectedly, teams are forced to navigate scattered sources of information — sensor data, maintenance and failure records, PDF documents, emails, and institutional knowledge held in the minds of experienced employees. The real challenge teams face is not access to data, but the ability to make sense of it quickly and accurately. As a result of this fragmented structure, information has to be pieced together through analyses that can take days, and when combined with the hundreds of small problems encountered daily, companies miss significant opportunities for efficiency and optimization. By processing billions of data points that no individual could handle alone within a single AI-powered structure — learning continuously and positioning itself as a team member — Archimetis enables operations teams to make faster, more consistent, and more data-driven decisions.

Paul Manwell, Co-Founder and CEO of Archimetis, stated: “For years, operations teams have had to manage rapidly increasing operational complexity with tools that could no longer keep up with their needs. Recent breakthroughs in AI reasoning have now made this problem solvable for facilities of any scale. Today, we can give every individual in operations and engineering access to the reasoning and intuition of the most experienced experts, while also making institutional knowledge visible so that best practices are applied consistently across every shift.”

Strengthening industrial operations through AI reasoning

Archimetis is built on a modern operational reasoning architecture grounded in the advanced AI developments behind Google DeepMind’s AlphaCode approach. Operating within a secure, private cloud environment, the platform brings together structured and unstructured data from diverse sources — including sensor data, maintenance records, and documentation — within a single structure. By integrating leading language models and analytical tools, it continuously monitors operations for problems and opportunities, applies global and company-specific best practices, and automates complex engineering analyses that would normally take days. The resulting insights are then delivered to operations teams in real time and in an actionable format. According to initial results, Archimetis has generated an estimated annual financial impact of $34–45 million at a refinery with a daily capacity of 120,000 barrels, through margin improvements, cost savings, and increased process safety.
