Borusan Enbw Enerji Is 10 Years Old!

03 March 2019
Borusan EnBW Enerji, established in 2009 with the partnership of Borusan and Germany's leading energy company EnBW to support the development of Turkey's sources in the field of renewable energy, has achieved a lot in the past 10 years. On its journey, which started with an installed capacity of 45 MW, the company has reached 505 MW total installed power today and is determined to be the industry leader in wind energy.

Borusan EnBW Enerji, the joint venture of the Borusan Group and Germany's third largest energy company EnBW, celebrates its 10th anniversary. Today, with its portfolio of 8 Wind Power Plant (RES), 1 Hydroelectric Power Plant (HES) and 2 Solar Power Plant (GES), the strong partnership aims to be the leader of Turkey's energy sector in the field of wind energy.

“An Exemplary and Successful Partnership”

Borusan Holding Chairman and CEO Ahmet Kocabıyık, said the following in the statement he gave for the 10th anniversary of Borusan EnBW Enerji:

"The liberalisation process of the energy sector which began in 2001 in our country, is now giving results and energy bottleneck of Turkey ceased to be a problem for the future. Private sector investments and especially partnerships with foreign direct investments in energy have a great share in this. Partnership between Borusan and EnBW brought together a serious expertise and knowledge and has left its mark on Turkey's energy sector. We have achieved an exemplary and successful partnership that is constantly developing with investment moves. The fact that we determined our strategic goals accurately from the beginning and the harmony between the corporate culture and values of the two companies played a big role in this success. I believe that this strong partnership will continue to leave a mark on our energy sector and develop our renewable resources.”

EnBW CEO Dr. Frank Mastiaux made the following assessment:

"10 years ago, EnBW decided to support the development of the dynamically growing renewable energy market in Turkey by expanding from the Central European region which it's familiar with. We cooperated with Borusan as a strong and reliable Turkish partner to enter this new market. We shared the same goals and vision from the very beginning. As a result of this good harmony we have achieved in the partnership, we have had many accomplishments in the last 10 years and we have become an important market player in the energy sector. Borusan EnBW Enerji and its employees are proud of these achievements realised in the past years. Turkey is an important strategic market for EnBW and will continue to be important. Turkish renewable energy market has a very important business potential especially in the wind energy and photovoltaic field. With our Turkish partner, we will continue to walk on the successful path we have progressed to this day.”

“We illuminated 2.5 million households in 10 years”

Noting that they are experiencing a strong and sustainable growth process with their investments, Borusan EnBW Enerji General Manager Mehmet Acarla stated that they are among the serious investors of the renewable energy sector and made significant contributions to the protection of natural resources and the environment while developing renewable resources.

Acarla continued his remarks by saying:

“In 10 years, we increased our total installed power from 45 MW to 505 MW and grew 11 times. We quickly implement all the projects we have won and purchased from the bids, following the completion of the permit processes. We have 11 renewable energy plants operating today and a total portfolio of 1,150 MW. Between September 2009 and June 2019, we illuminated 2.5 million households, producing 6.6 billion kWh of energy. With this production, we have contributed to the reduction of energy imports, which is the biggest input of our current account deficit, by preventing approximately $ 410 million of natural gas imports in the same period. Only our production in 2018 was 1.4 billion kWh. Currently, we have two RES projects on a scale of 210 MW; financed and in the investment phase. Wind power plants make significant contributions to the prevention of global warming, which is the most serious environmental problem of today. With our facilities operating in this extent, we contribute around 800 thousand tons of carbon emission decrease per year. We will continue to invest in Turkey’s energy sector and serve our country.”
