A significant step from Borusan towards the future work ecosystem: Human Rights Policy covering the entire value chain published.

Guided by a “people first” approach, Borusan has transformed the importance it places on human rights into a shared corporate commitment. Its new Human Rights Policy encompassing employees, suppliers, business partners, and the entire value chain; offers a wide range of safeguards, spanning from equal opportunity to digital rights in artificial intelligence, and from climate focused transformation to ethical oversight mechanisms.

Advancing toward the future with the vision of "People First, Pioneering and Reliable Borusan," Borusan integrates the "People First" approach central to this vision, into all its business processes. Aiming to establish a safe, fair, transparent, and inclusive working ecosystem across its supply chain as well as within its group companies, Borusan has published a human rights policy that encompasses its entire value chain.

Nursel Ölmez Ateş, Borusan Holding Group President for People, Communications, and Sustainability, commented on the matter: “At Borusan, we regard respect for human rights as a fundamental element of our corporate culture and the way we conduct business. We believe that every individual has the right to live and work in safe, inclusive, and fair conditions that uphold their dignity. Guided by this principle, we aim to prevent discrimination, foster equal opportunity, and create an environment where our employees can freely express their views across all areas of our operations. In today’s world, our responsibility regarding human rights extends beyond our own operations. Developments ranging from technology to the climate crisis compel us to view human rights from a much broader perspective, necessitating an approach that encompasses our suppliers, business partners, and entire value chain. Therefore, through our Human Rights Policy, we are establishing a framework aligned with international principles and standards, and we are committing to upholding the rights of all stakeholders who may be affected by our activities. Our goal is to strengthen respect for human dignity, fair treatment, responsible business practices, and to safeguard fundamental rights and freedoms at every point where Borusan creates value.”

It encompasses the entire Borusan ecosystem

Borusan, which places people at the heart of its corporate culture, is transforming this approach into a strategic and binding commitment through its new policy. Viewing employee well-being and fair working conditions as the keys to sustainable success, the Group is institutionalizing the principles of inclusivity, equality, and continuous development across all its operations through this document. Demonstrating its determination to preserve its deep rooted corporate heritage while evolving for the future, Borusan offers a trust-based work environment where human potential drives both development and sustainability.

The policy applicable to Borusan Holding and all its Group companies establishes minimum standards not only for employees but also for the entire value chain, comprising suppliers, business partners, and contractors. Borusan expects all stakeholders within its ecosystem to adhere to these principles and supports this process through risk based assessments.

What stands out in the new policy?

The Human Rights Policy prepared by the Borusan Group, based on international standards, encompasses not only traditional labor rights but also current priorities that address the evolving and transforming needs of today’s business world:

  • Equal opportunity and inclusion: Recruitment, promotion, and remuneration are based solely on merit and performance. Through a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) approach, all differences are valued and embraced.
  • Artificial intelligence and algorithmic discrimination: In the processes of technological transformation, risks of algorithmic discrimination are being addressed, and next generation rights such as data minimization, human oversight, and data privacy are being safeguarded.
  • Climate and just transition: The impacts of climate change and the energy transition on workers and local communities are addressed within the framework of just transition principles.
  • Fair wages and working hours: Fair remuneration based on the principle of "Equal Pay for Equal Work," compliance with legal working hours, and flexible working models are supported.
  • Zero tolerance principles: An uncompromising stance is maintained against child labor, forced labor, human trafficking, harassment, violence, and workplace bullying.

To ensure the policy does not remain merely on paper, the Borusan Group also implements a systematic "Human Rights Due Diligence" process. Potential risks are regularly analyzed, and preventive measures are taken.

Employees, business partners, and all stakeholders can report situations they believe violate the policy via the "Orange Ethics" reporting channels securely, confidentially, and anonymously if necessary. Principles of confidentiality and protection against retaliation are rigorously applied throughout the reporting processes.

The Human Rights Policy, which is intended to be reviewed at least once a year, symbolizes Borusan’s commitment to growth by creating a positive impact for its employees, value chain, and society.
